The Serengeti National Park is located in the northern parts of Tanzania, bordering the Maasai Mara National Reserve in neighbouring Kenya. The park is a Unesco World Heritage Site and the oldest park in Tanzania. The biodiverse and wildlife area is shared with neighbouring Maasai Mara National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area, well known worldwide for its abundance of wildlife and one of the best safari destinations. Believed to have the highest population of lions of all the parks and national reserves throughout Africa.
The Serengeti also plays host to one of the most impressive wildlife spectacles in the world, the Great Migration. Millions of wildebeest along with thousands of zebras and antelope makes the 1800 mile journey through the savannah and vast plains in search of lush grasslands after the summer rains.
The park has excellent game viewing all year round and is one of the oldest ecosystems on earth and has remained largely untouched for millions of years. Big predator population which includes a very large concentration of cats and home to the Big 5.
Serengeti which means “endless plains” in the local Maasai language, is an accurate description for the captivating grassy plains with its vast amount of wildlife. One of the best wildlife reserves and safari destinations in Africa, which is definitely a destination which should be on everyone’s to do list.
