The Golden Gate Highlands National Park is situated in the Eastern Free State close to the little town of Clarens, near the border of neighbouring Lesotho. Located on the foothills of the Maluti Mountains, this park is named after the golden coloured and eroded sandstone cliff and outcrops, which includes the Brandwag Rock. Best seen at sunset.
The QwaQwa National Park has been incorporated into the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, to preserve the beauty of this landscape and with fences removed the wildlife could roam over bigger areas within the park.
Go on one of the numerous scenic hiking trails, abseiling or a visit to the Basotho Cultural Village.
