Devils Peak Hiking Trail

Devils Peak Loop is a 7.1km heavily traffic circular trail, one of the popular Cape Town hikes for those looking for a bit of thrill. Connected by a saddle and offering magnificent panoramic views of Cape Town, Devils Peak is only slightly lower than Table Mountain at just over 1000 meter high.

Hikers have the option of starting the climb to Devils Peak from Tafelberg Road, Newlands Forest or Rhodes Memorial. Tafelberg Road route is the shortest, Newlands Forest route through beautiful indigenous Cape forest and the Rhodes Memorial route being the most thrilling.

All of the routes converge at The Saddle that connect Devils Peak with Table Mountain, this is also where the path up to the summit starts. The last section to the peak is steep and requires an appropriate level of fitness and determination.

The wind up at the summit can be very powerful, take care wandering close to the edges as gusts from the Atlantic have been known to cause problems for hikers. If you are fortunate you might see low clouds flying through the gap.

Newlands Forest has many picnic spots and braai facilities open to visitors, which is great for relaxing after your climb to the summit.
