Ash River Rafting

River Rafting on the Ash River in Clarens boasts year-round white water adventures. This is because of the crystal clear water flowing from high in the Lesotho Mountains and through the Katse Dam making for superb grade 4 rapids and loads of fun.

Clarens Xtreme offers many team building activities or adventures for the whole family or small groups. They are situated 5 minutes drive outside of Clarens town and has a lovely cocktail bar and coffee shop where you can get ready for your quad biking trip, paint ball game, check your ropes for your rock climbing mission or rent a mountain bike for some nearby trails.

After a trip briefing from your highly trained and qualified river guides, you will have a quick practice session before hitting the real rapids. First up will be “Breathalizer” rapid to test your skills in the wild Ash River before paddling downstream to tackle “Carwash” and “Alles Verloren” (translating to ‘lost everything’). You will stop for included refreshments on the bank after diving into “Fish Pond Rapid” – a grade 4 washing-machine of a waterfall for the brave.

With long open roads perfect for road trips, this area has loads of iconic towns and scenic drives. It lies just above the independent land-bound country of Lesotho – aptly named the Land of Mountains – and has many mind-blowing hikes from medium to expert level.

Free State river rafting is loads of fun throughout the year, yet we have to mention that during winter the Clarens can get very col as it lies 1805 above sea level.
