AfriSki in the mighty Maluti Mountains is the highest ski resort in Southern Africa and the only ski resort in the Kingdom of Lesotho. Approximately 70km from the town of Butha-Buthe in northern Lesotho, this alpine resort with an elevation of 3050m above sea-level has a range of outdoor activities on offer all year round.
Winter season between the months of June and August the main activity is skiing and snowboarding in the Kapoko Snow Park, with 1.8km of slopes and two transport lifts for visitors. The slopes are situation between 3030m and 3222m which includes a main slope and also a slope for beginners. Ski and snowboard equipment rental available and the resort also have a mountain ski and snowboarding school for beginners or those who want to improve on their existing skills. Snowfall varies from year to year but snowmakers along to slope will guarantee you get your time on the slope to have fun or to improve your skills.
During the summer months AfriSki is a great and stunning location for mountain biking, enduro, 4×4 trails and fly fishing. Hiking is a popular activity during the summers months and this location is great for altitude training. Afriski can be reached by normal vehicle coming through the Caledonspoort Border through the town of Butha-Buthe, or for those who have 4×4 vehicles with low range Sani Pass route is recommended. This stunning and biodiverse landscape away from the city lights is guaranteed to make you feel relaxed and miles away from the crowds.
The resort offers a variety of accommodation to suit any need which includes dorm and hostel style rooms for backpackers, apartments and mountain chalets. The Sky Restaurant is open daily and additional entertainment at the Gondola Cafe & Cooler Box bar conveniently located on the foot of the main ski slope.
Afriski is also home the Winterfest the annual music festival which features some of the best South African and Lesotho artists, accommodation is limited and pre booking is recommended to guarantee you have place at the resort.
